SENS N° 361 – July-August 2011 – Correspondence with Edmond Fleg

This issue originates from the discovery of the "Fleg archives" in the Library of the Alliance Israelite Universelle. There, one can find micro-films of the letters received by Edmond Fleg from a certain number of interlocutors.

Sens publishes here fifteen letters which Sister Genevieve Gendron sent to Edmond Fleg (Sens No 552 already issued letters from her to Jules Isaac), five letters from Father Marie-Benoît (who saved Edmond Fleg and his wife from the Nazi threat), and two letters from Fadiey Lovsky. This publication is introduced by Olivier Rota’s article on The thought of Edmond Fleg: Jewish-Christian cooperation, Messianism and Zionism. It is also followed by the republishing of an exchange of letters between Edmond Fleg and Jean Danielou about messianism (first published in Dieu Vivant in 1946-1947), as well as the text of Fadiey Lovsky’s interview dating 2009.

Besides the standard items, the present issue offers a short, lively and incisive article by Anne-Marie Baron on how four recent French films have staged the Vel d'Hiv roundup. For the author, "the way current films look at the reality they convey is increasingly uninhibited. Fictional intrigues rely now on more and more accurate and well documented knowledge of this particularly disgusting episode of French history and of the sadly mythical place which provided its framework."
